Most children love animals and will usually start to ask a pet. Allowing them to have may depend on many factors, especially where you live, how long you have to give a pet and maturity level of your child. Your child is ready for a pet? Does he display of real interest to a friend of animals, or is it the last Whine-of-date? How can he handle the responsibilities? Does he complete age appropriate tasks or is it a constant struggle to get them to do something? If you can not make him pick up his dirty drawers, can he really Food, water and clean up after a pet?
Living in apartments are often attracted to exotic pets because they are small and relatively easy maintenance. Before you start looking at real animals, make sure you know your child's temperament and level of commitment to the idea and then refine the search. Find the right category of the first animal and then start looking. Search you should take a reputable pet shop where a salesperson should take the time to match your child to pet the right and not simply trying to make a quick sale. Make sure you know what kind of equipment in your new pet will need to stay happy and health before heading into the animal, some animals are more expensive initially than others.
Understand that if the child is the one who is asked for that animal, you will eventually oversee his care, and may be supported full time. In this spirit, you may want to consider if you are able to tolerate the chosen company. If you're anti-snake, and your son has refused to clean the cage, what will you do? Also, consider food the animal before it can be part of your family. Snakes for example, eating rodents. Will you be able to handle this? Can it be too intense for your child?
Finally, remember that the attention span, even more patients can be as short lived as the toy ads filled, they are bombarded. Today, "hot" pet will reject past tomorrow, so be prepared to intervene and adopt the ropes.
